5-Clogged-Toilet-Tips-That-Will-Get-You-Out-of-a-Jam

Everyone has a toilet and knows that it can and will get clogged at some point—some more than others. And when a toilet gets clogged, it needs to be fixed ASAP or else…well, you know.

Here are some clogged toilet tips to help get things flowing again.

5 Clogged Toilet Tips

When you have a minor toilet clog or want to avoid a bigger toilet clog, here are some tips that might help get your toilet flowing properly again.

However, please keep in mind, it’s best to get to the root of the problem and not put a bandaid on it. Calling a professional to properly diagnose and fix a toilet clog is always the best route to go whenever possible.

1. Invest in a Plunger

You would be surprised how many people don’t have a plunger. But a plunger is the one thing that can fix a minor toilet clog quickly.

So what should you do if you don’t have a plunger?

2. Hot (but not boiling) Water

If you don’t have a plunger, head to the kitchen and put a pot of water on the stove, and heat it up to just before the boiling point. Make sure the water is not so hot that it’s boiling. This is very important because you don’t want the water to be too hot.

Next, you will slowly pour the water down the drain and let it sit for a few minutes. If you’re lucky, this will loosen the clog. You will know this is working if you begin to see the water starting to drain. When this happens, go ahead and flush your toilet a few times to help remove the remaining blockage.

3. Baking Soda and Vinegar

If your toilet bowl water isn’t all the way up to the top, or if it is and you are willing to clean up a little overflow, you can try baking soda and vinegar. Just pour one cup of vinegar and one cup of baking soda into the toilet. When combined, the baking soda and vinegar will bubble up and, in most cases, will loosen a minor clog. Then wait about 30 minutes and pour some hot water (not boiling) down the drain to help remove any remaining debris.

If this doesn’t work the first time, you can repeat the process one more time. And if that doesn’t work, you probably have a bigger issue and should immediately call a reputable Sarasota, Florida plumbing contractor.

4. Toilet Bowl Brush

If you don’t have a plunger, you could always try using your toilet bowl brush. Just take it and pump it up and down a few times. This might be enough to loosen your clogged toilet. If you’re grossed out by this, just invest in a new toilet bowl brush to replace the one that entered all that nastiness. Yuk!

5. Call a Plumber

If all else fails, and even if it doesn’t and you were able to loosen the clog, there might still be an underlying plumbing problem. So your best bet is to call a Sarasota, Florida plumber to inspect and fix any issues. This will prevent you from having to go through this again any time soon!
